Discover some of Hamburg’s most beautiful cycling tours

Want to see a different side of Hamburg? How about riding a bike? Our Hanseatic city offers a wide variety of bike tours. You can choose to ride through the city, alongside the water, or to explore the surrounding area – the choice is yours! Read on to find out about some of the most beautiful cycling tours in Hamburg.

Along the Elbe River

Discover the Elbe river from a different perspective by bike. This tour starts right outside our hotel and takes you along the Inner Alter Lake towards the Landungsbrücken. There is plenty to see here already. The tour then continues through the Old Elbe Tunnel to the south bank of the river. From there, you can simply cycle on. You will pass dykes, container terminals and charming places such as Finkenwerder. Still have energy? Then you can easily extend the tour to the Alte Land and enjoy its beautiful scenery.

Harbour tour on two wheels

What would a holiday in Hamburg be without a harbour tour? On this bike tour, you stay on land rather than going on board. The big advantage is that if you want to take a closer look at something, you can just stop. If you fancy a coffee or a slice of cake, why not treat yourself to a break in one of the many cafés?
On this tour, you will ride from Neuer Wall through Speicherstadt and HafenCity, and around the harbour basins, at your own pace.

Alster round trip to Ohlsdorf

How about a short tour away from the hustle and bustle of the city? The Alster roundtrip takes you northwards. Take in the villas, parks, and the many water birds that live on the Alster. If you want to cycle further, we recommend continuing on to Ohlsdorf or the Alster's source. This peaceful, green tour will make you forget that you are in Hamburg.

Length: 25–30 km
Travel time: 2–2.5 hours

Vier- und Marschlande – the tour for nature lovers

Did you know that Hamburg has extensive marshlands? In the south-east of the city, they are perfect for walking and cycling. We particularly recommend this route to nature lovers. As well as marshlands, you will find historic farms, fruit trees and colourful flower fields here. The tour starts in Rothenburgsort and then follows the Dove Elbe.

Length: 40–60 km
Travel time: 3–4 hours

Wilhelmsburger Loop – a short tour with plenty to discover

It doesn't always have to be 50 km! If you just want to go for a short ride, the Wilhelmsburger Loop is ideal! Cycle first from the hotel to the Old Elbe Tunnel, then head straight to Hamburg's island, which boasts industrial charm, urban parks, and quiet waterways. We think it's the perfect ride for a morning or to clear your head.

Length: 6.5 km

Bike tour to the Alte Land

We would definitely recommend the longer tour to the Alte Land. With its half-timbered houses, fruit trees and tranquil rivers, it feels like you're in another world. Idyllic and diverse – just what you need sometimes! Along the route, you have to change to a ferry once, which is perfect for a short break.
